RoboSense has reported an exceptional first-half increase in LiDAR volumes outside its automotive business. Sales in the category “LiDAR products for robotics and others” rose 510.4% year on year to 282,600 units, according to the company. Total revenue increased 30.2% to RMB 1.02 billion.
The figure is a meaningful signal for the physical-AI supply chain, but it requires careful wording. The disclosed category combines robotics with other applications. It is neither a humanoid shipment count nor evidence that segment revenue grew at the same pace as unit volume.
Robotics volume outpaces the core business
RoboSense sold approximately 719,200 LiDAR units during the half year, up 169.6% from the corresponding period. ADAS applications accounted for 436,600 units, while robotics and other applications contributed 282,600. By volume, the newer business is moving closer to the established automotive segment.
LiDAR provides mobile robots with distance data for navigation, obstacle detection and mapping. Rising volumes make it less likely that this type of perception hardware remains confined to expensive pilots. The unresolved questions are pricing, margins and the precise share attributable to robots within the combined category.
From robotic “eyes” to skin and muscles
RoboSense describes its expanded product strategy as “Eyes, Skin and Muscles.” Eyes cover LiDAR and perception; skin refers to tactile sensing; and muscles describe motion and actuation components. The company says first commercial deliveries of new products are due to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
This is a platform strategy. Instead of supplying a single sensor, RoboSense wants to capture a larger share of a robot’s component bill. An integrated stack could shorten integration work for manufacturers, but it also increases execution risk because new product categories bring different manufacturing, quality and support requirements.
What the figures do not establish
The interim release does not provide a separate revenue or margin breakdown for robotics alone. Demand for the new skin and muscle products is also still unproven. High volumes of small sensors are not automatically equivalent to large system orders.
The Alpha Bionic view
Humanoid robots generate the headline images, but supplier volumes may be the more reliable early indicator. RoboSense suggests that competition in physical AI is moving down to component level, where perception, touch and movement must become a repeatable industrial stack.
