Digit 5 price, operating costs and safety: A recent RoboSphäre video asks whether Agility Robotics’ latest humanoid could outpace rivals. The more useful question for warehouse operators is what can actually be verified. Agility has published preliminary specifications and commercial plans, but it has not published a verifiable list price or a proven all-in hourly cost for Digit 5.

Digit 5 specifications: verified claims and important limits

Claim What the sources show
1.81 m tall, 129 kg, up to 22.7 kg payload These figures appear in Agility’s announcement. Its product page says specifications are preliminary estimates from internal pre-production tests and may change.
90 minutes of operation, nine minutes to recharge, more than 20 productive hours a day These are manufacturer figures or goals, not an independently established throughput guarantee at every customer site. Travel, picking errors, interventions and integration affect useful output.
65,000 operating hours and 100,000 totes moved These are Digit 4 fleet and GXO deployment milestones, respectively. They are not long-term reliability results for the new Digit 5. Agility reports roughly 98% accuracy for the GXO tote milestone.
$300 million in orders Agility describes multi-year Digit 5 customer orders. A SEC investor presentation relates this potential value to 1,000 robots over three years under robotics-as-a-service arrangements, subject to contract milestones. It is not immediate revenue or a per-robot sale price.

Digit 5 price: why $11.43 per hour is only a scenario

The video discusses an illustrative calculation: $200,000 to buy the robot, $20,000 for deployment and $36,000 in annual maintenance. The arithmetic is straightforward: $200,000 + $20,000 + (5 × $36,000) = $400,000 over five years. Dividing that by an assumed 35,000 productive hours gives about $11.43 per hour. The problem is the inputs. Those prices are not a published Agility quotation, and a multi-year service-contract value cannot be converted into a reliable unit purchase price.

The denominator is demanding too. Thirty-five thousand productive hours mean 7,000 hours a year, more than 19 hours on every calendar day. Charging cycles alone do not determine this figure: maintenance, integration, supervision, unplanned stops, electricity, insurance and site changes all matter. A credible comparison with conveyors, other mobile robots or labor needs a site-specific quote and observed output over time. The $11.43 figure is in US dollars, not euros.

Does “fenceless” mean certified safe everywhere?

No. Agility is developing Digit 5 for cooperative work near people, and independent field evaluation on a customer production line is a meaningful milestone for its platform. It is not a blanket “OSHA certification” for every Digit 5 deployment. The product page explicitly says some safety functions remain in development and that safety features cannot remove every operating risk. Risk assessment of the complete installation and local conformity requirements remain essential. Our earlier analysis of Digit 5’s fenceless-safety claim examines the technical background.

European availability and public-listing plans

Agility targets early access in the EU and UK in the first half of 2027 and broader availability toward the end of that year. CE marking is an objective, not an already completed approval in the announcement. A listing is likewise not complete: the proposed transaction with Churchill Capital Corp XI cites a $2.5 billion pre-money equity value and remains subject to conditions and approvals. Neither number establishes the economics of one deployed robot.

Is Digit 5 better than Figure 03 or Tesla Optimus?

There is no reliable head-to-head answer without the same task, site and test method. Meaningful measures would include totes moved per hour, failed grasps, availability, human interventions, safety clearance and total cost of ownership. Promotional demonstrations and selective specifications are not a substitute for comparable independent deployment data.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Digit 5 cost?

No publicly verified list price is available. The often repeated $200,000 figure is a scenario, not a confirmed manufacturer offer.

Can customers buy Digit 5 now?

Agility describes Digit 5 as still in development. Its European early-access target is in 2027, and dates and specifications could change.

Can Digit 5 work safely without a fence?

It is designed for cooperative applications. Whether a specific installation can operate without physical separation depends on the full system and its site-specific risk assessment.
