Universal Robots was founded in 2005 in Odense and launched one of the first commercially successful cobots in 2008. The company lowered the entry barrier for small and medium-sized enterprises through compact arms, graphical programming, and a growing integrator network.

Today, the portfolio includes the e-Series and the more powerful UR Series. The range extends from small tabletop applications to models with a 35-kilogram payload and long reach.

Ecology instead of a Bare Robot Arm

A cobot does not perform a task without tools and process integration. UR+ bundles compatible grippers, cameras, welding packages, software, and application kits. PolyScope forms the operating and programming platform, and training is offered through the UR Academy.

This ecosystem is a significant competitive advantage. Customers can rely on tested components and experienced partners instead of developing each interface from scratch.

Safety and Cost-Effectiveness

Universal Robots publishes certification information and has a large installed base. Nevertheless, “cobot” does not automatically mean operation without protective measures. Tool, workpiece, speed, and potential pinch points determine the risk concept.

Cost-effectiveness is particularly good when tasks are repetitive, ergonomically demanding, and occur in small to medium series. At maximum speed or very high quantities, a conventional cell may be more suitable.

Universal Robots is not a promise for the future, but an established automation provider. The company serves in the atlas as a benchmark: New humanoids must demonstrate when their additional mobility justifies the higher technical and economic effort compared to a cobot.
