Infrastructure instead of individual robots

NVIDIA is primarily a provider of computing platforms and software. In robotics, Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab connect the simulation, Isaac ROS accelerates runtime components, GR00T provides models and data pipelines, and Jetson Thor delivers computing power to the robot.

These layers address the entire development path: capturing demonstration data, generating synthetic scenes, training policies, testing, and then executing on the machine.

Isaac GR00T and Jetson Thor

Isaac GR00T is an open reference platform for generalist humanoid models. Jetson Thor provides Blackwell-based edge computing power for sensor fusion, speech and vision models, as well as real-time control.

In 2026, NVIDIA additionally announced a reference humanoid based on Unitree hardware, Sharpa hands, and Jetson Thor. This system serves research and integration; the body does not come entirely from NVIDIA.

Impact on the ecosystem and dependency

Numerous robot manufacturers use NVIDIA hardware and parts of the Isaac stack. This creates shared tools, faster development, and a large developer pool.

At the same time, a strong dependence on proprietary computing hardware, CUDA, and cloud/simulation tools can generate costs and supply chain risks. Companies should examine data sovereignty, update policies, and alternative runtime paths.

Editorial classification

NVIDIA is a “pick-and-shovel” provider of the Physical-AI wave. The company potentially benefits across many classes of robots. For Atlas, NVIDIA is therefore listed as a platform and component provider, not misleadingly as a traditional humanoid manufacturer.
