Figure AI

One of the most ambitious humanoid providers technologically and financially; real-world BMW deployments and its own manufacturing are relevant, but long-term profitability and wide customer availability remain to be proven.

Company and Objectives

Figure AI was founded in 2022 with the goal of developing a generalist humanoid robot for industry and later for household use. Unlike pure hardware providers, Figure simultaneously builds mechanics, actuators, battery systems, manufacturing processes, and the AI system Helix.

The company thus pursues a vertically integrated approach. According to the company, Figure 03 was designed from the beginning for higher production volumes. The BotQ manufacturing facility is intended to produce critical components in-house and accelerate the feedback loop between hardware, field data, and AI training.

Figure 03 and Helix

Figure 03 combines a bipedal body with tactile hands, camera-based perception, wireless charging, and the Vision-Language-Action system Helix. Helix is intended to connect perception, language understanding, task planning, and full-body movement. The robot is designed for industrial material handling and, in the long term, for household tasks.

The publicly documented BMW deployments are important because they show the robot outside of its own laboratory. Nevertheless, these are defined processes and partner projects. The step from successful task sequences to a flexibly deployable, economical fleet remains significant.

Manufacturing and Business Model

BotQ is Figure’s answer to the industry’s central scaling question. Instead of predominantly milling prototype parts, Figure increasingly uses die casting, injection molding, and stamping processes. This can reduce costs, but it requires high upfront investments and stable designs.

For customers, in addition to the produced quantity, price, integration effort, service organization, spare parts supply, and intervention rate are particularly important. These data are so far only partially public.

Editorial Classification

Figure belongs in every market overview because it brings together hardware, AI, manufacturing, and real industrial partnerships. Nevertheless, the evaluation should differentiate between proven production, manufacturer goals, and economically viable use on a widespread scale.

Assessment of development status

In 2026, Figure reported the production of more than 350 Figure-03 systems and a throughput of one robot per hour. These numbers come from the company; regular list prices, service costs, and wide availability are not public.
