UBTECH Walker S2 at Rossmann: Chinese robotics manufacturer UBTECH is expanding its footprint in the German-speaking market. Terra Robotics has been appointed exclusive distributor and strategic partner for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. UBTECH says Terra has already ordered an initial batch of several dozen full-size humanoid robots. One of the most visible trials is taking place at Rossmann’s logistics centre in Burgwedel. That does not yet amount to a robot fleet at the retailer: Rossmann officially confirms one Walker S2 in a pilot scheduled to run throughout 2026.

What is new about the DACH partnership
UBTECH describes Terra Robotics as its exclusive distribution partner for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Terra dates the official authorisation to 1 April 2026 and says it covers industrial humanoid systems as well as educational robotics. Its role extends beyond sales to consulting, project planning, implementation and local technical support.
That local layer matters in industrial robotics. A humanoid platform must be connected to each site’s material flow, IT systems, safety zones and maintenance procedures. Rossmann confirms one Walker S2, not dozens
The companies’ statements need to be read carefully. UBTECH says Terra bought an initial batch of several dozen humanoids for deployments across industrial settings, including Rossmann logistics operations. The retailer’s official release is more specific: one Walker S2 arrived at Burgwedel on 17 March 2026.
The trial follows a roadmap covering the whole of 2026. It starts with defined use cases, moves through gradual integration into real workflows and ends with an assessment of whether expansion makes sense. The distinction matters: the several-dozen order relates to Terra’s broader portfolio, while Rossmann has publicly confirmed a single test unit.
What the Walker S2 is expected to do
The focus is on repetitive activities such as material handling and sorting. Humanoids could be useful because they are designed to operate in spaces and at workstations originally built for people. In practice, that advantage only counts when the robot performs tasks reliably, safely and at an acceptable total cost.
Rossmann lists 52 degrees of freedom for the Walker S2. These support complex movements of its arms, hands, torso and legs. A warehouse, however, values availability, secure gripping, cycle time and predictable behaviour around staff more than showpiece motion. Why Europe matters to UBTECH
The deal forms part of a wider internationalisation strategy. UBTECH says it wants to move beyond exporting hardware and offer scenario-specific solutions with local partners. For customers, a regional contact can reduce friction around commissioning, training, spare parts, service and regulatory compliance.
The financial context is mixed. According to UBTECH’s 2025 annual report, revenue rose to RMB 2.001 billion, with full-size humanoid products and services contributing RMB 820.6 million. The company still reported an annual loss of RMB 789.8 million. Rapid sales growth therefore does not yet prove a profitable mass market.
Assessment: operational data will decide
The Rossmann project matters because it takes place in a live logistics environment. Yet manufacturer claims, pilot objectives and verified results are three different categories. Data on successful picks, downtime, human interventions, safety events and total cost of ownership will ultimately show whether the Walker S2 can compete with specialised robots or conventional automation.
The new DACH structure makes further deployments easier. It does not establish that humanoids are already economical at scale. The most useful next milestone will not be another demonstration video but a transparent evaluation of the Rossmann pilot after its test phases are complete.
