From Mechanical Engineering to Connected Automation
KUKA has its roots in Augsburg mechanical engineering and developed in 1973 the KR FAMULUS, an early electrically driven six-axis industrial robot. Today, the range extends from individual robots to complete production facilities.
The corporate structure includes robotics, systems, software, and mobile automation. This combination is particularly important in the automotive industry, where robots, fixtures, conveyors, and quality processes have to function as an entire system.
Wide Hardware Portfolio
The KR families cover small to very high payloads. LBR iiwa and LBR iisy are intended for sensitive and collaborative applications, respectively. SCARA and Delta robots serve fast assembly and packaging processes; KMP, KMR, and AMR systems handle mobile logistics.
KUKA can thus connect stationary machining and material flow. For customers, a coordinated portfolio reduces interface risks but can also mean a stronger commitment to the manufacturer ecosystem.
Software, Plant Engineering and Lifecycle
Controllers and software platforms determine how quickly systems are programmed, diagnosed, and expanded. KUKA Systems additionally brings experience with complete factory lines.
When it comes to investments, spare part availability, training, security updates, and integrator networks often matter more than individual peak values. Established providers have a clear advantage over young start-ups in this regard.

KUKA belongs in the atlas because the company represents today’s industrial standard. Humanoid robotics will only economically succeed where it solves tasks that are not more easily automatable with KUKA’s established arms, cobots, or AMRs.
